    Default PSU's and SATA cables

    Hi

Planning my first computer build so I'm keen to try and buy appropriate parts.
I intend buying a SATA 2 capable motherboard and so would also like to buy a SATA 2 hard drive. Does this mean I must have a PSU that is SATA enabled.
Also the question of 24 or 20 pins. I read recently that converting via an adapter is OK from 24 to 20 but 20 to 24 is not so good. Is this true?

Thanks for all help in advance!..............K

    Hi, welcome to the forums

Ok so are you going to purchase a new power supply or use one you already have?

You dont need a SATA enabled PSU as such just a PSU with enough power to run the motherboard your going to buy, normally 350W or higher is ok but its worth checking in the motherboard manual the minimum spc PSU required.

Most of the latest PSU's come with SATA power connectors, but you can get adapters which convert the standard power connector to SATA ones also which will work fine. (You may get these with your motherboard as part of the pack)

24 - 20 pin - Again it depends on the motherboard but most will except both without the need to an adapter but it really depends on the PSU and motherboard your using.

If you want to give me the make and model of the motherboard you buying and the PSU details i can check all this out for you..

    thanks
