    Default Not a mess. Just some questions.

    Hi

    Motherboard = Asus P5B Deluxe Wifi-AP Edition
    Graphics = Asus EN7950GT
    Hard Drives = 2 Seagate SATA II 250 (ST3250620AS)
    Memory = 2 Geil 1Gig DDRII Dual Channel Kit = 2 Gigs Memory

    Can someone tell me how to install the Hard Drives as IDE when Windows XP Pro does not even see them or Seagate Disk Wizard will only format to 137 Gigs?

    I found a disk creater on the Motherboard's driver CD that makes a 3rd party driver for Windows XP and after using this XP could see the drives but only 137 Gigs of them.

    Do I have a BIOS problem? and should I update the BIOS?

    Also the 3rd party driver = should I be using the Intel ICH8 32 or 64 bit RAID / AHCI
    or should I use the JMicron JMB36X 32 or 64 bit RAID / AHCI driver? Keeping in mind I am using Win XP Pro (the none 64 version) and I wish to use the drives as IDE.

    Thanks for any advice.

    Hi,

    Ok I will try and explain the problem..

    The original XP install CD's (prior to service pack 1) only allowed a maximum of 137Gb for the boot partition.
    So seagate have the drive wizard software to workaround on this problem..

    If however you XP install CD is a later version which includes (SP1 or SP2) the whole drive size should be seen so you dont need the seagate drive wizard

    what xp install cd do you have?

    Yes TechieMike.

    My XP CD is an old version.

    But what is bothering me is the Seagate Disk Wizard is also only seeing 137 Gigs.

    Why would that be? and is there anyway I can get around this problem at startup or do I have to like only format 50 Gigs for the C: boot drive and after XP installation and SP 1 and 2 is installed format the rest?

    I think the drivewizard only fixes the problem of your bios not seeing the full drive, which is not the situation in your case.

    You could partition the boot partition as 137Gb and the rest of the drive as another partition once SP2 is installed.
    You could use partition magic for example or similar if you wanted to make it all one partition after you have installed XP, or maybe borrow an XP install CD that has SP1 or SP2 for the install
