Default new computer... problem with windows

I just built a new computer with a Intel d945gcl mobo. All I have connected to it is a dvd rewriter and a sata hard drive. The processor and ram are showing up as working in the bios and it shows the dvd and hard drives. The problem is when I boot from my xp pro disk (which doesn't have sp1 or 2) it loads drivers and when it goes to start windows it comes up with a message that says it can go no further in order to protect the computer. It offers some advice and at the bottom it says:

    Stop: 0x0000007E( 0x0000005, 0xF76440BF, 0xF7A90208, 0xF7A8FF08)

    pci.sys - Address F76440BF base at F763D000, Datestamp 3b7d855c

What should I do I tried the advice the computer gave and nothing (except updating drivers and bios because I am not too sure how to do that). I put in a pci video card and didn't even get a picture. When I boot without windows it says " media failure check cable" (with onboard vid).

Oh yeah, it didn't come with a bootable disk so I have to use windowsxp. And also when I boot with out widows it says no bootable device insert boot disk and press any key. And I have the hard drive plugged in with the end with the clip on it in the hard drive and not the mobo is that right?

I think its to do with the fact your not using the windows xp cd (SP1 or SP2), some of your hardware is only supported in SP2.

try this if you dont have SP2

Create a new CD with XP/SP2 slipstreamed into it:

Thats correct, the link in the above post is supposed to get around that problem by showing you how to burn a install cd that includes xp2, of course if you could always borrow a copy which would be easier

I plan on getting vista premium when it comes out but I hate to wait tht long. When I get to the updating the windows share part, I get an error message that says " the filename, directory name or volume label syntax is incorrect" even though I punched in exactly what they said to.

It worked but it took some figuring the directions from the site you gave me didn;t explain an important part of the process. It didn't explain how to get into the directory and us laymen don't know how to do that. But once you use the CMD command and get into the directory everything works fine and now my new computer is up and running.
