    Default Upgrading RAM

Hey, im planning to add anothyer GB of RAM in the coming weeks to take me up to 2gb. At the minute I have 2X512mb, which was what the PC came with. When upgrading do i need to use the same type of chip, at the minute its samsung, or can I buy any type? There are two free slots on the Mboard but id rather get a 1gb chip than 2X512mb.
According to Ntune it is DDR SDRAM
Or, would i be better replacing the original RAM with 2X1GB or a single 2GB chip?
    Thanks

Suggest you use the scanner at Crucial; http://www.crucial.com/uk/?gclid=CKa...SOUEAodQGZ56g# .It will show all compatible ram for your system. Whether you buy from them or not it's up to you but a very handy site for system info, especially ram.

Would the speed be affected by using different chipsets? E.g Kingston and Corsair?

I've always been advised to stick with identical ram cards to avoid the possibility of of problems and it's kept me in good stead. However have a read of this thread; http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/...question-heard

The scan should have shown if ram has error correcting code or non ecc. All my PC's have had non ecc memory.

extra possibillity to consider 6 gig of ram and a ramdisk that is compressed so
that extra work may be in faster than harddrive swapfile = = what is/are the benchmarks for compression ? Will games run faster ? Will video process faster ?

If you are using windows xp 32 bit then the limit is 4GB. http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/Aa366778.aspx . As for a ramdisk that is compressed- I have no idea..
