Default visual basic - any advise?

I'm an old fashioned cobol programmer who needs to learn a more up to date programming language to revive my career. A lot of advertised jobs seem to be in vb6 and vb.net. I'm a bit confused about the relationship between these two versions of vb.

    1, Is vb6 aleady outdated by vb.net?
2, Is it feasible to learn vb.net without first learning vb6?

Any advise or comments would be much appreciated.

    Hi,
Nice to hear that you're considering visual basic.I'm a visual basic 6 programmer
but i haven't use vb.net yet.I think vb.net(it's in the name)is more on web based
applications and it's more complicated that vb6.I guess, you have to learn v6 first or
at least the basics so that it wouldn't be hard for you to understand vb.net.
    Good luck!
