    Default Alternative Firmaware for Routers?

    Hello all.
I am looking at a LinkSys WRT54GL 802.11b/g wireless G router and have found some alternative firmware called "tomato" - have any of you heard of this? or, of doing something like this? The site is here:

    http://www.polarcloud.com/tomato

It also lists other alternative firmware options. I'm curious, but cautious and would like to get some feedback before pursuing any further.
    Thanks!

I use a Netgear router and usually update firmware through their site. Usually it enhances the router's application. I'm always wary of third party drivers or firmware as you will never know what private information will be reported back to that third party. Still, if you want to try it then go ahead but I think you may be vulnerable.

Just my thoughts but I'm always overcautious anyway.

Thanks - I appreciate your input. My thoughts are the same - you never know what you'll end up getting. Still, it is something new to me - I had never heard of this before and wanted to see what it's all about...think I'll steer clear...thanks!
