    Default TechMaster.

Re your post in Technology News concerning Vista's SP1. Microsoft has noted difficulty in various security systems that will be blocked by Vista's first Service Pack. A link for some: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935796 .
Vista is the most secure OS that microsoft has produced and I have been running Vista for a while on a laptop and find that now XP is dated.
Never thought that I'd say this but Vista is a much better OS than XP.
Teething problems occur just as they did with XP but no doubt these expensive 'security program makers' will rush around to create a 'patch' to be compatible with Vista. Otherwise they might not be needed.

Each to their own but I recommend Vista on a new machine but not to upgrade.

I would have to agree that Vista is better installed on a new machine rather than an upgrade, which I have heard horrendious problem with (but I
suppose that same was said when XP came out)

Just curious, but my only taste of Vista was fixing a friends laptop. Why do you think Vista makes XP look dated?

I know Vista has all the "Bells & Whistles" concerning appearance, but what has Vista got that XP has not in the sense of an operating system. Or what extra does it give to the operator?

I have been using my XP machine with no problems for over 3 years now, I know eventually I will have to upgrade (And spend a lot of money doing so as most things are not compatible "printer/scanner" etc.). So what has Vista to entice me away from XP?

Vista is more secure and has a better firewall. Easier to set up connections and the search facility for files and folder is much better. Tabs on taskbar are 'live' so that if you have a scanner or something similar running, you just need to hover the mouse pointer over it and it shows a miniature live page. The eye candy, of course, snipping tool and a lot of other little things I forget..
My main desktop is XP and will be until it expires. A while ago I bought a reconditioned laptop with Vista home premium. CPU a tiny 1.7 GHz with 1 GB ram. Vista worked well under these conditions but after upgrading the laptop to 2 GB ram there was a slight improvement in speed.
I find that I use the laptop more and more as Vista is definitely a step foreward as an operating system. Unfortunately, though, with rumors of a Windows 7 OS not far away then maybe businesses will be better off waiting before upgrading. As for home users and possibly gamers, and after SP1 then Directx 10 games might be supported more by the game producers. If that happens then I fear that XP will be down and out.
Credit to XP though, was the best OS by Microsoft up to now.
