Well this is the Chit Chat area, but we can try and help. Need a lot more information though.
What OS is on the two machines.
What files are you trying to transfer
What are you trying to achieve.
If you are just trying to move certain files from one computer to another, there are lots of ways you can do it.
USB pen drive
External Harddrive
CD/DVD
If both computer are online you could even email them.
Tell us a bit more and we will try to help.
Going back and forth between two locations, each with it's own PC. One location has a Vista Home Premium laptop - the other a Windows 7 desktop. I'm carrying a rugged LaCie 500 gb drive back and forth.
My objective is to quickly, simply and seamlessly be able to operate in either location without finding that I have older versions of files; missing files; or different configurations and preferences.
I'm using Syncback, freeware that allows me to synchronize (2 way) or backup (1 way) and has a lot of control over which directories and files are involved.
Right now (the day before I leave the laptop for the 1st time) I'm most concerned about making sure I have all the files I'll need.
I started by backing up my entire user/michael folder. Issues I know about:
1. ntuser.dat would not copy
2. what will I need that might not be in user/michael? eg. I know that AOL stores it's PC mailbox outside of this folder structure. I no longer use the AOL app, so I'm not asking about that specifically, but using it as an example of how hard it is to know if you've got everything
And, what have I NOT thought of?
I would suggest you install a VPN progam on both computers (assuming they are both online).
The VPN software (when running on both Computers) would allow you to operate the computer you are not at (EG you can operate the Vista machine from the Windows 7 machine via the internet).
any missing file you need could then be attached to an email and sent to the machine you are currently working on (If that makes any sense
Ie. with VPN program you can sit at the Win7 machine and load and operate the Vista machine via the internet or vice versa. Rather difficult to explain but have a look at this link for the Comodo free VPN program.
Free VPN Download - Free Remote Access. Comodo Easy VPN for Strong Encryption Software Security
Ferret,
Yes, that does make sense - problem is that I don't have much bandwidth in one of the locations - AND, I'm a serious amateur photographer and generate up to a Gig a week in files.
