Default Trying to do a system backup

Hello I am new here and a bit slow on computers so some patience is required, thankyou for taking time to read this

I am trying to do a system backup to CD on my laptop, but the only disc it likes is a CD and that doesn’t hold enough. I have tried DVDs and it ignores them. It wants –R whatever that means and I have tried +R and –R, it just will not work

It plays CDs and DVDs with no problem

    Any help would be appreciated.
I will not be able to get online again till late tonight as I have to go to out.

    Hi Linka

Do you know what type of cd/dvd player you have on your laptop?
Or if you let me know the make and model of your laptop i should be able to check for you and let you know which cd/dvd's are supported.

    thanks

    Hiya Zorro,
Apologies for not getting back sooner, here is the information you requested
    Mat****a WDA760 DVD\CDRW
The thing is the data space needed is about 7gig and I don't think CDs hold that much do they? I had an offer for Acronis true image 8 as that is something to do with backup so I have ordered that, will that help me?
    I did warn you I was a bit slow didn't I?

    Thanks

    Hi,
Firstly are you sure your DVD is a recorder and not just a player, a DVD/CDRW normally means that you can play DVD's, but only record CD's, i tried to look up your model laptop but the name , it came out as Mat****a, i think maybe our word censor picked up something it didnt like
Can you let me know what it was but with a space beteen each letter ie. M A etc etc

Acronis true image 8 basically makes an image of your hard drive, which is basically an exact copy everything on it but it will compress it down to a smaller then 7Gb size, probably not enough to fit on a cd though.

Let me know about the Latop brand name though!
    thanks
