Thread: Drives Wont Power Up

HI
i had a problem with an old pc, the drives would not power up while connected to the mother board niether would the monitor.
i rebiult this pc a few years ago with a msi neo2 865e m/b, worked fine. i just got a cheapie m/b (ep 4pead) and a used cpu to test.
have installed the board and still have the exact same problem. pc wont boot up drives wont power up unless they are unplugged from the m/b( both hd and cd) and not powering up the monitor ( seperate power supply)
any ideas ?

psu is whirring away lol and the m/b has a led monitor/diagnostic on it showwing FF, manual suggests either bios chip inserted incorrectly(checked),incorrect bios update version( cant update as drives wont work and no monitor)add on card inserted incorrectly??.

Are you able to or have you tried another PSU?
Also try some of the following :
1. Attach just one HDD only with just the power to it, no ribbon cable and see if it spins up.
2. If it does just connecting the ribbon cable (double check its the correct way around on the motherboard, i know its obvious but i have known this to cause a similar problem to yours)
