Angry sata drive not recognised by xp set up

my pc wont boot error msg states config system file missing. no problem so far as this has happened before and i always save important data to cd regularly. Bios recognises my sata drive but when I run setup from the xp disc I get the msg that setup cannot find any HDD. I even installed an old ata drive and tried to use disc management in control panel but no sata drive was recognised. help. I dont have a recovery disc I can make one on my lap top but dont know how to do it.

Default Re: sata drive not recognised by xp set up

The only thing i can think of is that some SATA controllers require a driver for the sata controller to be installed during the windows xp install, although the bios recognises the sata drive , windows wont until the driver is installed.

If you know the motherboard or pc make and model we can check
