    Default Upgrade to USB 2.0

I have an old Compaq 5310US WinXP Home, with ONLY USB 1.x connections. I'd like to add some USB 2.0 ports so I can transfer movies from the camcorder in something less than overnight! <grin>

I don't have an extra internal PCI slot - only an IDE slot? (it's black, much longer than a PCI slot and is offset from the PCI slots.) Can this be used and how would I do it?

I also have empty space below the A:\ drive (a bay the size of an A:\ drive). Perhaps this would be the best solution? and, how would I do it this way?

I don't know what I would need, how I would hook it up, etc. etc. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

You will need to add some kind of USB card to your pc, it sounds like you could have a spare pci-e slot from what your saying and you can get pci-e usb 2.0 cards.

do you have a make/model of your pc or motherboard, this will help check what type of slot you have free.

    thanks

    Hi Tech-Master.
Here's what I got off the MB:
    Replace with Compaq spare #254552-002
    SPS-BD SYS 815E
and then there's a serial number.

I have 3 PCI slots, but they're full - modem, NIC and SCSI

There's another slot there, but it's not a PCI slot and I don't know what it would be called. I took a picture, but there's no way to upload it here.

Well, I removed my SCSI card and put in a USB 2.0 PCI card, so I can't use my scanner any more <frown>.

Thanks Fabler. Guess I'll have to make due without my scanner..........

Another question: I'm trying to find the drivers for HP DeskJet 400 for Win 98. I've tried everything on driverguide.com and nothing works. Seems all the "UK" versions think this machine has Win95 on it for some reason and they won't install. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Try uninstalling any drivers allready installed (if you tried some) and run a reg cleaner. May be a reboot. Have a look at this link with instructions to install win '98.

    Hope that will help.

FABLER!!!!! How do you do that? How the heck did you find that driver? I searched all through the HP website, and all I could find was "we don't support 95, 98, 98SE or ME anymore because Microsoft don't support them"!!!! What would I do without you?
