    Default hard drive format

    I just got an external drive for back up and would like to format it just for external storage such that when plugged into a USB port it would just look like another storage device, just like a flash drive. How do I do that? The CD that came with the drive wants to format it as an internal drive.

    Does windows recognise your drive when you attach it to the USB?

    normally you can partition and format new drives in disk manager (right click "my computer", click manage, click disk manager)
