    Default Hard drive solution?

    Hi,
I am trying to retrieve some files off my old laptop which is broken. I have taken out the hard drive and have been told that all i need is a caddy to get the files off the drive onto my new laptop.

    Is this correct?

If so, i have a Hitachi Travelstar
    MODEL: IC25N040ATMR04-0 4200RPM ATA/IDE
    P/N: 08K0862
    (OEM: 318047-001)

What would i need for this?

    Thankyou,

    Andy

    Andy,
If the "broken" part of your laptop is not the drive, [or, if it is the drive, but the thing is still readable], then you could hook it up and read the files as if it were an external hard drive on another computer. You could use a USB to SATA/IDE adapter cable like this to read from it:
