Roxio Easy CD Creator v5 with Memorex 40MAXX CD-RW drive; PIII Dell 4100 computer with 384MB RAM Windows 2000 SP4. All software is up-to-date.
I replaced the hard drive on this computer and reinstalled the operating system and all the software. This Easy CD Creator v5.1 was working with the 40MAXX CD-writer prior to the new hard drive install. I know this for sure, because I made a driver backup CD before I removed the old hard drive. (BTW: The software came with the drive originally.)
However, now with the new hard drive, every time I open the program I get an error "Easy CD Creator Engine Initialization has failed - Could Not Load CDR4". Then the program opens and I select "make a data CD". I drag files and folders to be copied. When I press the RECORD button, I get another error "There are no supported CD-Recorders available. Ensure that your CD-Recorder is powered on and that all cables are properly connected. You may also need to update Easy CD Creator to recognize your CD-Recorder. To update Easy CD Creator select web-checkup from the internet menu".
I searched the CDR4 error code on the Roxio web site and found nothing. I sent an email to tech support and their response was "[we don't support this anymore - you have to upgrade to a newer version, blah blah blah...]"
I had loaded the original program which was ver 5.1 and then I upgraded it to ver5.3.5.10. I still get the same two error messages. The program still will not work with the drive. I even flashed the drive to the latest version (ZWS4, I think).
This drive functions properly and reads, (I can view files in My Documents and I can also copy them from the CD to the hard drive), and the "TEST" function in the Easy CD Creator works - it gives me write speeds after evaluating the CD-RW. I don't know what else to do to get this to work. Any ideas?
Thanks!
