Angry Powers turns ON but nothing happens!

    Hello Group,

I have a WIN2000 machine that is not responding. I push the power button and I can see all the fans turning ON but that's it. The mouse, keyboard, and monitor don't turn ON at all. Is this a sign that my power supply has kicked the bucket? I built my PC 6 yrs ago, it has a USB mouse, Analog video card, and PS2 keyboard. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It could be a number of things, i normally strip the machine down to just cpu, memory, and psu and disconnect everything else.. if you still get no joy then a PSU or systemboard is most likely the problem

Thanks for the tip. I followed your instructions for testing the CPU, PSU, and memory only to find out that the problem persisted. I now suspect the CPU is the main culprit as I tested my PC using a new PSU that is 50 watts better than my original and still nothing.

I guess its safe to assume that my CPU is bad. To verify things, the CPU is the actual chip not the motherboard or does the CPU reffer to the motherboard and chip together. If I make a straight replacement, would that fix my problem or do I sitll need format my disc and so on.
