    Question "Black" screen monitor

    Hi Folks,

    Sorry newbie technophobe here

My LCD monitor (Dell 15"), started to go "black", but you can still see the image if you look hard enough; the screen just goes really dark. When it came to getting the image back turning the monitor power off & on got it back for less than a second, eventually after about 10 off/ons the screen stayed on properly, but the amount of times you had to go through the on/offs were increasing. Then it appeared to give up the ghost, not come on at all; but I recently gave it another go and the on/offs worked again. I realise that new monitors are not extortionate, but I was brought up not to throw anything away that can be mended. The monitor is about 3 or 4 years old. Is this problem fixable?

    Thank you,

    Grothenwell

PS I should add I tried a CRT monitor and it worked fine

Sound like the montor backlight is faulty or bust. These monitors can be repaired but the expense of repairs could be quite high.

Personally I would just buy a new monitor
