    Default Broadband Routers

I have 22mb Virgin Media broadband and I am delighted with it. But, I always thought I was not getting the superfast functionality that Virgin claimed and couldn't figure out why, until now.

On Friday last I lost internet access and rang Virgin. A very helpful young man (english too!!) took me through some steps, he 'spoke' to my modem and told me it was the router, through which I can connect to my daughter laptop upstairs and my own when required. So I asked about the Virgin Router. £40 he said, delivered by courier. PHEW!! Er, OK I said send it (the cost goes on my bill). Tuesday and it arrived.

I followed the easy to read instructions and removed my Trust 350BR router and installed the new Netgear wireless/cable router and then installed the cd software.

A very easy to follow on screen wizard later and I am up and running - POW! Everything loads instantanously!!! So I ran around the net for a while, everything was VERY much faster than before.

So, I loaded my laptop up and tested it after installing Virgin Wireless Manager off the CD and that too is appreciably faster!!

I never realised that the router could have slowed me down so much!!!! Even my laptop wirelss connection is zooming!!

Yes I had the same problem using 2 XP machines. The router was not compatible when I upgraded one machine to Vista. Virgin supply 10mb 20mb & 50mb broadband so if you are getting 22mb you have either a very fast 20 line or a very poor 50

Mm might give Virgin a call about their router. They emailed me last week and offered me a new modem, as I had the old one for quite some time (free upgrade) of course when it arrived it didn`t work so had to call them for assistance (got it up and running in 5 minutes)

I got a new modem a while back, Scientific Atlanta 2100 by Cisco.

My bandwidth was originally 2mb a long time ago, then they upped it by 10 to 12mb, then upped it again by 10 to 22mb.
