Thread: Blue screen

My son purchased a brand new pc about a month ago and in the second week it started blue screening. Its been back to the shop where we bought it but they reckon, after having it on the bench for a week, that thy couldn't get it to act up. We have reinstalled XP 3 times but to no avail. We think it might be the graphics card an ASUS Geforce GTX 285 - nVIDIA GeFOrce GTX285 but we can't be sure. Anybody know anything about this card?

Blue screens are normally hardware problems, or sometimes it can be the drivers..

does it blue screen randomly? or when doing certain tasks? Check the drivers for the geforce card is the latest one

It seems to be random, although its most noticable when turning on and it won't complete the boot up properly so you have to turn it off and on again 3 or 4 times. At other times there is nothing obvious triggering it. My son says he has downloaded the most recent drivers but without improvement.

I think you Graphic card requires DirectX 10 to work properly. DirectX10 is not available from WinXP (Well not from M$). You can get third party directX 10 for XP but some people experience problems with it. You could Google for DirectX10 for XP and try a couple of downloads to see if that resolves the problem.
