Default Problem w CD I burned

I burned a CD and gave it to my biz partner (we're both running relatively new Vista PCs).

She did some stuff and now, neither of us can see what is on the disk.

PROPERTIES shows that there is data (it's almost full with jpg's) but when either one of us tries to open the CD to view the files, all we see in the file window is a message saying "drag files to this folder to add them to the disc"

I did try to drag something new onto the disk, and I got a dialog box asking how I wanted to format the disk.

Sounds like the CD is trashed (Happens a lot) you should burn important data to at least 2 CD`s (More if really important) and always check the CD works after burning it.

However "Stable door" and all that ... you could try to get the photos back using this software
CD file data recovery, CD | DVD | BD | HD DVD support, Product details (Not sure if the free copy would do or whether you might have to buy the paid version.

    Best of luck

    Default trashed, yeah...

    Thanks Ferret,
well, I still have the files on my pc, so I didn't lose anything.

Are some discs more likely to fail like this or is the problem with everyone?

Would dedicated software (rather than the burning in Vista) reduce the risk of the problem?

Well good news that you didn`t lose anything. Are some discs more liable to fail? Well generally you get what you pay for. I find a 50 pack of Tesco (Own brand) DVDs will have about 4 that will not work, while a named brand might perform slightly better. It is a balance act .. throwing away the Tesco discs is cheap and I don`t worry about them. However if I wanted a good DVD that I needed to keep I would certainly go for a brand name disc.

Well I now use the Vista burner software and had not problems with it But I also use other programs like "ConvertXtoDVD" for burning Home movies etc.

What you could try is to open "Windows DVD maker" you should see "Options" bottom right of the screen. Check the burn speed setting .... If I remember correctly it is set to "fastest" by default. change it to Medium or even Slow. That will take longer to burn the disk, but give better results.
