This is the MS site for troubleshooting Media Player
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306318

A much better alternative player is VLC Media player:
http://vlc-media-player.en.softonic.com/

VLc Media player will play most media/music files ..

Hi, get the CCCP codec pack (combined community codec pack)

from thier site, (google it)

then you are able to play dvds in MS media player.
