    Default Activating Norton by phone

Having jusy acquired a second computer to work alongside my old one which has Internet Security 2006 installed, I, naturally wanted to use the remaining six months of the I.S. 2006 in the new machine. I'm told I can't do this with 2006, but I can do it with I.S. 2007. I have installed I.S. 2007 in my new computer now, but cannot activate it online because my new computer is not connected to the internet. To do so I am required to obtain from Orange ( formerly Wanadoo) an extra bit of hardware that I'm told will cost me an extrat £10 or so a month. I noticed in the I.S.2007 User Guide, that came with the product, the option to activate by phone. It reads, and I quote: "1. Disconnect from the internet. 2. In the Connection problem window, click ACTIVATE MY SOFTWARE BY PHONE, and then click next". My problem is I can't find the Connection Problem window. I've searched all the Norton windows I can find, but cannot see any option to activate by phone. Can ANYONE help.

    Hi,

Firstly the £10 a month extra to connect your second pc sounds rubbish to me, a network cable to run between the two machines and you can share the internet connection on both. very simple to set up.

As the activation problem, make sure you dont have any pop-up blockers enabled, for more help see link below and "activating by telephone" link

A further annoying problem I have encountered while trying to protect BOTH my computers is that I was told by a Norton Symantec adviser in India that I cannot use Symantec Internet Security 2006 in both machines, and, should I attempt to install it in the second computer, it will cease to function in BOTH. I was also told by this chap in India that I COULD use the Symantec Internet Security 2007 in BOTH machines because there had been a change in policy within the previous few weeks to allow up to THREE computers to be covered. I asked him for assurance on this, which he gave. On the strength of this assurance I purchased the 2007 version of Symantec Internet Security, which cost me £59. It was after loading it into my new computer, which had NO virus protection, other than that provided by Microsoft XP, that, in my search to Activate by telephone, brought me into contact with another Indian adviser (who, hopefully did activate it) who told me, contrary to the earlier advice from India, that, just as with the earlier version, I CANNOT use it on more than ONE machine. So, the situation is now, that I have 2006 installed in the OLD machine, which CAN connect to the internet using Broadband, and 2007 installed in the NEW computer, which, NOT being connected to the internet, cannot benefit from any update downloads, unless your suggestion regarding the network cable overcomes this problem, which, as I am still grappling with this one, trying to understand the compexities of Host and Recipient computers, workgroup names etc. is yet to be discovered. B'WILDERED.

    Hi,

Wow sounds like you have been given allsorts of misleading advice about your norton software..

As for sharing the internet its easier then you may think, first i need to know:

Is your broadband connection via a USB modem or a seperate router through your computers LAN ?

    thanks
