Default AOL will not install on hubby computer

I have tried to install AOL on my husband's computer but the problem is after it is installed. A message appears on the screen that reads......'AOL will not install the files required for you to connnect to the service. Your computer will need to be restarted. Close any open programs, then click yes. If you clicke no, the AOL software will not function correctlyuntil you restart' The computer is restared with the same message. I have taken ALL AOL files out and have reinstalled AOL again. I get the same message. Can anyone help me before I lost my cool.

AOL 9.0 Security Edition was installed by disk. That didn't work. Than it was downloaded with the same results. The version of Windows XP. And the connection is dial up. ( No there is no broadband is the area.)

    Hello

did you try clicking no because i have found that aol says it will not function properly if you do not install these files or restart computer and really, it does.... it might mean that not everything is supported by the aol browser (e.g flash) but you can use internet explorer or firefox etc as your browser...

have you tried using aol dialler? right click on the aol tray icon and click start aol dialler, enter your screen name and password and click sign on.... this connects to the internet without using the memory that aol normally would (so your computer runs slightly faster when connected and playing games)

I have tried your suggestions, Mike and that that doesn't work either.

If it's the connection part of the installation that won't complete then download the ACS 4.6 beta. (AOL Connectivity Service). Open to anyone. http://beta.aol.com/projects.php?project=acs46&loc=0 . Hopefully will get you connected to create an account or re-establish one.

So you couldnt even use the dialer, i guess it just didnt connect?
The only time i have come across a similar problem was a compatiblilty issue and the user was told to install AOL 7 instead (by AOL tech) which helped in their case
