Hi All
I am having a problem with my internet at home. I have 1 XP desktop hardwired to my netgear 834G. The router is plugged into an ADSL phone point. I have an acer travelmate laptop connecting wirelessly to the router and also a packard bell laptop connecting to the router wirelessly. If i run a adsl speedcheck on the desktop or the ACER i get around 2.5Mbps which is what i am paying for, however, if i run the same test on the PB laptop, it tells me i am getting 300kbps (and its performance online reflects this). I am not running software firewall, i am running AVG free on the desktop and PB laptop and Sophos on the ACER (work machine). I have set all the IP, DNS, Gateway, Subnet settings the same on all machines. The wireless signal is 54 Mbps and excellent strength. I do not have any mac address filtering or friewall rules setup in the router that would afect one and not the other but the PB laptop has terrible internet connection speed (which is strange as they all use the same internet connection). Does anyone have any ideas or has experienced this before. The only thing i haven't tried is bringing my PB laptop to work and trying it on our wireless network (with 8MB adsl). The Desktop is about 3 years old and running XP pro, the Acer is 3 years old and running XP pro, the PB laptop is 3 months old and running XP media centre (but has the best spec of all 3 machines). I have scanned the machine for malware/spyware etc. The internal network between the 3 machines is fine and works perfectley. The wireless will give ma an excellent connection on both laptops at the bottom of my garden. Is there something i am missing. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
