I added a D-Link DIR-655 x-treme N Gigabit Router to someone's internet line so they could have a wireless network for a new laptop. I hard-wired the ethernet line to their W2K desktop and set it up.
Everything worked fine, except we noticed that shortly after, the W2K desktop began to lag and have problems displaying pages in IE. The Vista laptop, however, has no problem.
So, I added Firefox to see if that helped; no difference. I finally put the desktop in the DMZ (de-militarized zone), which basically puts the desktop outside the router's firewall - a pass-through configuration. It worked well....for a while....they called me a few days later to say that they are still having problems. The page has to be loaded/refreshed about 3 to 5 times before it finally displays. It's so annoying that they actually unplug the computer from the router and plug it directly into the modem when they work on the desktop, then plug the router back in when they want to use the laptop.
I find this very strange. I thought the DMZ would resolve the problem. Does anyone have any ideas of what else I can do? Thanks!
