Default Netgear WG511T won't connect Guest Account on boot

I've got a WG511T v1 on a Dell Inspiron 1000 with XP Home SP3. I downloaded and installed the latest software v5.2; In my main user account, with administrator privledges, everything works fine. If I then go to the guest account AFTER the main acocunt, everything is fine. But if I boot the computer and go straight to the guest account, it won't connect to my network. Anyone know if there a way to resolve this please? Thanks!

On Vista at the moment but if you enable the Guest account it has even less privileges than a limited account if I remember rightly. I'd disable the Guest account and create a limited account for guests and name it as you wish. Once an administrator account is opened then internet access is automatic and only then can the guest account access the net.

What do you think that Windows 7 E will come without IE? Remembering your post about the ammount of Windows7 versions that will be churned out? Makes me laugh....

If Marketing have their way, there will be barebones + IE8, barebones + IE8 with a few less bugs, home networking user + IE8 (but still no fax module), home/small business + IE8 WITH fax module and lots of bugs, regular business + IE8 + fax module + a few less bugs for $100 more, and big business + IE8 + mega fax module + VoIP + only a few annoying bugs but a huge price tag and a huge footprint on the HDD. All of these, of course, are available in 32-bit and 64-bit, with 128, 256 & 512-bit following in the spring. Of course, nothing will store on the HDD anymore - it all has to go on the "Sky Drive", which, although free at present, will be charged at a to-be-determined per Gigabyte price. Have I got it right?

All kidding aside, I do have another question: This WG511T will connect to a WPA2-PSK network with either AES or TKIP, but I can not get it to connect to a WPA-PSK (no "2") - any ideas????

simrick you make me laugh..... You're absolutely brilliant! No wonder we're friends.
This WPA-PSK (no "2") . This has me thinking that you have replaced a dongle or lan card or even router and kept the same settings, hence the No. 2 mark. If so then start from scratch may be?
New router (same make) shows all settings as "2" as all I did was to configure a new Netgear modem/router to replace a 'fading' one, shall we say, and ever since all settings in Vista, anyway, shows the '2' or second setting of original. Seems wireless routers have an invisible profile?

Understanding the updated WPA and WPA2 standards | George Ou | ZDNet.com

The LinkSys router has not changed - what changed was the update in the Netgear PCMCIA connection software, which will connect to my home network which is WPA2, but will not connect to her network which is WPA only (there is no option to select WPA only). This update is the latest software available on Netgear's website. I'm just wondering if maybe there is a firmware update for the WG511T v1, or how I can get an option to connect to WPA networks? I haven't found anything on the net yet, and Netgear are wasting my time with their email tech support, acknowledging my request, making me register on their website, then asking me for serial numbers and purchase dates, etc etc.........

Your friend's router is LinkSys? PCMICA update driver stopped the connection? Roll back to previous drivers then. Never update drivers unless you have a problem first.

Nope. no driver update - I installed the most current connection software - which is 2005 I think LOL. The original software is from 2003 and it's not a robust version - sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. So I installed the latest version software. But I had used this same software on an old Compaq XP system a few years ago with no problem. The problem I have is that the connection software finds the network and identifies it as WPA2-PSK and it's not, so after I put in the keyphrase, it can't connect. It gets a connection for a split second, then it never acquires an IP address. The only other option it gives me in the dropdown box is WPA-TKIP, and it's not set up that way - it's set up with WPA-PSK AES encryption. I wonder if I shoudl just change the security settings on her router and be done with it...........but I can't believe that there would be this limitation in their software - it's a basic thing, you know?

Hmm, I misunderstood when you said ' no 2'... thought you meant 'number 2'
Its an old card so I'd either change the router's config. or get a new card.
