Default Wireless nightmare from hell!! Help please.

Hi all. I'm fed up of crouching on my bedroom floor at my computer which is connected via the ethernet cable to what should be a wireless router! Any help very gratefully received. Basically, I have had two wireless routers now from Plusnet and they appear to be working fine. The tech guys have run through everything with me and they say the router is working fine. My desktop appears to recognise that it's all connected ok and all working fine. However, I just cannot access the internet or send and receive in e-mail! My desktop is a Sony Vaio and isn't very old, so think it's probably not broken or anything. There is a wireless switch on the side which is switched on and the light is on, so that's fine. My Iphone connects to the router ok though but my laptop doesn't find it AT ALL!!! Arrrrh. I wonder if I managed to somehow set up some kind of network or something that the router doesn't like? Would this cause problems? I've tried disabling the firewall and that changed nothing. When I do ipconfig at the run prompt it says 'media disconnected' which baffles Plusnet tech guys! Please can anyone help????

Just to make sure I am understanding correctly: The desktop connects with a cable to the router and works fine; the iphone connects wirelessly to the router and works fine; the laptop does not see the wireless network at all?

If this is the case, perhaps the internal wireless adapter in the laptop is the problem. You could try an external USB wireless adapter and see if you can pick up the network signal with it.

If you connect the laptop to the router using an ethernet cable, are you able to get on the web and send/receive email? If so, then it is definately a problem with the laptop wireless adapter, not your router.
