Unhappy new modem, old setup
My wifes computer has a setup for an AOL DSL broadband modem, but I had to replace it and picked up a different brand modem but still DSL broadband. The new modem loaded up fine (off CD) stating it was completely set up and ready to run, but I had no connection to the internet. So I figure I should uninstall the AOL modem? to open up a port, or I need to do some manual adjustments (like IP addresses)? Any thing I could do to help this? My idea, and I am a novice at this, is to change the IP address. But I don't know how to do that.

Appreciate any help. Thanks

I assume old modem connected via usb. AOL support only a few of these and supply the drivers. Usually BT usb modems. Is the new modem connected via usb or ethernet? More information needed, thanks.

Appeciate the help Fabler. The new modem is basiclly the same as the old. Both USB with phone line connection, Broadband, just a small box with two connections in the back and some lights on top. The AOL is a BT Voyager Broadband DSL USB. It must not be conpatible with the new one. But does that mean I can't uninstall the AOL BT modem and still run the new one.

These are the only usb modems supported by AOL and their drivers, http://help.aol.co.uk/modem-driver-s...02092809990028 .If your new usb modem is listed here then uninstall old drivers and follow instructions to install the new one. Only connect the usb when asked to. If your modem is not listed here then I can only suggest contacting the makers for support.
