    Default Norton alternatives?

I have always subscribed to Norton for my virus protection/firewall and I don't know much about the other options out there. I want to find an equally trustworthy virus protection software to change to when my subscription comes up in April. Norton is too obstrusive when it comes to blocking programs and program updates from trusted sources and seems to be really "buggy".

    Any recommendations?

    Hi,
There are a couple of free ones i would recommend , I have used AVG-Antivirus in the past whith no problems, and at the moment im using AVAST , which covers many different protection modules such as email, virus, network, etc,
Zone Alarm is free firewall software, which again is very popular.
I have been very happy with all of these and i know many people who use them with no problems whatsoever.

I would take a look at those, they all offer more advanced versions which you can pay for if you feel you need the extra options they provide.

I hope you find the informatin useful

    Thanks

Great thanks! You are the second person that mentioned AVG to me so I'll be looking into it for sure.

I'm familar with Avast because my daughter has it on her laptop but I wasn't sure if the protection she was getting was sufficient or not. I can't gamble with something I can't trust cause I depend on my computer to make a living.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm sure I'll be looking into the versions, you mentioned, that cost a little and offer the extra protection.

No problem, im sure you already have one but just in case make sure you have a decent anti-spyware/adware program installed too, adaware SE, Spybot, Microsoft antispyware are all good, links for these are in the right-hand column under "Free Tools"

Yea, thanks.. I had all three of those at one time but eventually got rid of Microsoft (it was back when it was a BETA version) cause it started acting up and didn't seem to be doing anything the other 2 weren't capable of.

Ive had McAfee internet suite for a year - no probs with this. If you buy the whole suite from computer shops, it works out expensive - but if you buy it from e-bay (just make sure its an authentic version), it will probably cost between £10 - £15.

    Hope this info helps
