    Wink Computer Virus Conspiracy

I have often wondered if anti-virus companies actually employ people to create a new computer virus?
New viruses would mean new fixes, more sales of their anti-virus software, it would be a good scam wouldnt it? maybe im just a bit cynical

While the idea is possible, it is highly unlikely that it would happen.

First the Company couldn`t be sure you would download their Antivirus program, unless of course they were first to issue a fix, and if that happened on a regular basis, Other Antivirus software Companies would soon twig what they were up to, and force them offline.

Anyway why create a virus just to sell a software package when they could just as easily design one to empty your bank account.

A lot of these software companies offer FREE software that is as good or sometimes BETTER than paid versions of the same product. These people should be applauded for their efforts to keep You..Me.. and everyone else safe.

If you DO use free protection Software and for some reason cannot afford to make a small cash contribution to the Company, then at least email them thanking them for all their efforts.

A little THANKS still goes a long way in this world, You might be amazed at some of the replies you get from them.

Viruses mean money for antivirus companies, for computer manufacturers, for computer programs and for computer repair and virus removal.

Where would the major virus protection companies be if it were not for "computer viruses", "Internet safety", "malware", "PUPs" and all the other things they "protect" us from?
Well they wouldn't be making "record revenue of $424 million" for the fourth quarter of 2008 like McAfee did. But McAfee is not alone with it's million dollar revenues - these types of profits (those based on striking fear in people and taking advantage of people that don't know how all this stuff works) are not limited to antivirus protection.

    Thanks

Well past a thread sell by date but still relevant I suppose -

Use Kaspesky Internet Suite £39 for 12 months. Saw an interview with this guy once, he states that he started out because of the plonkers in Russia who made a career out of others misery, by creating viral software. So he employed a few in his new company to do the direct opposite - his business is now the biggest AV in the world and the most effective. I have been using it for 3 years now and NOTHING has got through.

I used to use avast but KIS is a much fuller more intensive search and destroy all over the pc, not only viral. Updates are more than daily and automatic
