Thread: smitfraud-c

I've somehow got a rather nasty "something" on my computer - its called smitfraud-c. I have McAfee installed and up to date, this did not pick it up. I have windows defender as well as spybot...neither of these picked it up.

The result of this thing means that I get constant pop-ups telling me the computer is infected and then it tries to make me download a virus checker which will cure it...it doesnt though. The pop-ups are very frequent and annoying. Ive done a system scan with all 3 of the above (McAffe, defender and spybot), it says there are no viruses on my system but spybot picked up the smitfraud-c bug. Idisabled system restore and ran another check to beat it up...then restarted the comp - no luck! The darn thing appeared very quickly again.

Anyone please help? I have read that other people have done a reformat but the their smitfraud-c bug persisted even after that!
