Thread: Need Help Desperately Spybot Search & Destroy problems!!

Hello, I have had Spybot Search and Destroy for almost as many years as it has existed, never had any problems...
Until now, whenever I try to update I get an error message that states error in retrieving update or something to that effect. At first I chalked it up to an error at the website that would soon clear itself up. After a week or two I decided that is not the case and attempted to go directly to the site (http://www.safer-networking.org) , I get the dreaded Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage error. I have tried checking the settings to be sure the site is on my trusted sites list, uninstalling it and re-installing, downloading a different version from Cnet. running Trend Micro, AVG, Spyware Dr. all to no avail.
I am running a HP Compaq nx6110 with XP operating system with IE 7
I have been having some problems with spyware lately despite running all three of the aforementioned software and spyware blaster! Man I wish an all in one existed that actually was an all in one! I was a huge Norton fan for years but found it was no better than the freebies! Sorry about the rambling....
ANY help would be greatly appreciated!

Seeems to work alright here.

It could possibly be a problem with IE 7 ... one of the worst browsers you could use.

Try a Google search for Spybot there is more than one download site, maybe you can not upgrade it but you can just download the latest version.

I am unable to go their own website so even if I were to download another version (which I did!) I cannot update it making it still useless. (The problem is I am not able to upgrade)
Sorry to be rude but I mentioned this already, I tried upgrading, then uninstalling and reinstalling, downloading a new version from Cnet (which I cannot update either) as well as attempting to go directly to their website.
Also as long as I'm on a roll, I have had many other browsers, I have had compatibility issues with every other browser I have ever tried including Firefox, Opera, Advant and Maxthon. So I'll be sticking to IE7 besides I believe this problem to be far beyond a simple IE7 problem.
This has me worried, any other site I have ever tried for assistance has asked for a HiJack This log and we have proceeded with a repair....
Can you help with one or is this not something you do?

Have you checked that your firewall settings haven't been changed? Worth a check.

I didn`t ask for a Hijack This log because it was the first posting and I had no idea how skilled you were on computers.

Certainly if you post the log on here I/we will have a look at it for you.

Is the computer running alright in other ways (internet/email etc)

Have you tried to download spybot in safe mode with networking ? and if you can i would run it in safe mode and see what results you get to start with.
