Default Cannot read my capture device
I have just installed Adobe CS3 Production Premium and when I go to capture video from my Sony HDR-HC3 camcorder, it tells me my capture device is offline (It is connected to my computer via firewire and the camcorder is turned on). The program should read my camcorder and it is not. Please help. Thanks.

Ok first can try your camera outside of the adobe software , windows movie maker will do , and make sure it works in that ok

Also have you checked all your settings in adobe to make sure its set to use DV control for the device

I tried capturing to Windows Movie Maker and the program was unable to read a capture device as well. I spoke with Adobe and he directed me to the Device Manager where it was determined there is no capture card installed on my computer. I have captured video with this same camcorder through Adobe Premier Pro 2.0. Now, after installing Adobe CS3 Production Premium I am unable to read a capture card.

I dont know what that guy is on about, your "capture card" is your firewire card, which is in your device manager , and the fact that it works in Movie maker, and version 2 proves it,

I will see what i can find out for you.

Ok i misread your last post, if it dosent work in movie maker then its a problem with your firewire card.

If you plug your camera into the firewire port when your in the windows desktop , windows should dectect new hardware which im guessing it dosent.

I would remove your firewire card from your pc and then plug it back in again becuase if windows dosent pick it up in the device mananger then your camera will never work until that part is fixed

I pulled the cards I plug my firewire cable into (that is connected to my camcorder). Still can't recognize the camcorder. I do not have a straight firewire card in my computer. I use a firewire to USB cord. Does that make sense? I used this same camcorder and firewire to USB cord with Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 and it worked. I appreciate your help. Thank you. Anything else I could try?
Did I pull the wrong cards?

Ahh ok i think i follow you now, you have firewire to you camera at one end the other end converts to a usb socket which you connect into the usb slot on your pc!

Is that right?

If thats the case and you dont have an "actual" firewire card in your pc then it looks like CS3 dosent recognise the convertor as a firewire device, just because pro 2.0 did it dosent mean CS3 will. You may want to check this with the Adobe Tech guy you spoke to.

It may be worth just putting a firewire card in your pc, you can get a decent one for around £30-£40

That is all correct. Thank you for your time. I'll connect with Adobe. Thanks.
