I am new to video editing, and was wondering which is the best software to start with.

If you're just starting out, I would suggest an easier program, something like Pinnacle Studio 9 or Ulead VideoStudio 9. As you get more knowledgable, you can work your way up through programs like Ulead Media Studio Pro, Adobe Premiere, Sony Vegas, and then eventually Avid.
