    Default A clean sheet...

Hi dont know if u can help me out. I wanna know if i film in pal and edit in pal can i convert it to ntsc with the editing program or will I have to buy a piece of hardware that does this?

    Hi,

I dont have any computer, camera or software as yet. Basicly to cut a long story short..I used to work for a safari wildlife company in Zimbabwe as a cameraman and now I want to go into it for myself. My wife will do a course in the editting department (which one would you recommend?) and I will do the "rough, tuff heman stuff" as cameraman. Hopefully in the future together we would like to make a small business out of it.I was recording about 5-7 minidv tapes in two weeks for the bloke I was working for.. which I expect +- the same in the future when I get my own camera equipment. I was using a canon GL1 and GL2... One PAL and the other NTSC. (broadcast quality) I am still learning all about this field and am asking alot of questions I know..We`ve been saving hard and for quite some time now.but at the end of the day we have a buget of about £4K for a camera and computer and edditing equipmet...probably +- £2K on each. I would like to go for something a bit more up to date in HD if possible and with a good zoom like the canon GL1&2. The computer editting system I am having alot more difficuties deciding..with all the bits and bobs I need extra??..is there a system I can buy that has everything?? Well at the end of the day it will need to hold a lot of film and I dont know what software I need to edit with..the bloke i worked for used final cut pro..do u think apple would be the best way forward? And finally which brings me back to my original question... I also filmed useing pal and ntsc depending on the client..and would sometimes have problems converting..with newer software and camera will I have this problem?

    hope you can help..

There are many editing software titles around, the most common seem to be adobe premiere, or a more professional solution you should look at Avid www.avid.com , these can both handle ntsc and pal video no problem

I know avid software has tools to convert ntsc to pal but the results are a bit hit and miss, you would be better getting the tapes converted by a profesional company.
