1. create a black video (File>New>Black video); this puts a black video in project bin
2. drag into left monitor window; set in/out to suit length
3. place cursor to desired insert point on Timeline
4. do insert from monitor window containing black video; lock audio track as desired 5. repeat 4 'til done
6. post a response to let us know if this works for you

Thanks for those thoughts but I have tried the black, I have tried just audio, or just video and even stills. It still does not allow me to do the most basic editing function "INSERT"
Does anyone think the audio track may be the culprit? I have quite a complex audio track, the audio and pictures are unlinked in many places and the audio starts before the end of a video clip in a number of cases.
I manged to insert a universal counting leader at the begining and all the clips moved down the time line like they are suposed to.
The latest clip I tried to insert jumped ahead by about 10 minutes in the time line.
I'm almost finished this project, Thank Someone, just some fine tweaking and final voice over track to go. I'm just concerned that my client will want some fades to black and breathing space between sections of dialogue and I will look very stupid if I can't perform those simple functions at will.
I hope you like a challenge?
Regards,
Sandor
