VOB to avi, wmv, etc

My dvd player has a HDD in it and i made it record and put it on a dvd. But when i want to put it in a computer it just plays in windows media player as usual. But when i enter the DVD-RW through the My Computer it opens it to VOB and BUP files, and obviously windows movie maker doesnt read these formats.

So I was wondering if anyone knew any FREE editing software so i can convert this into avi or similar playable types.
