    Default boot.ini & booting problem

    Hi all
    About month ago my computer kept crashing with ntoskrnl.exe errors and then fatally crashed with the same error (i think this was being caused by a combination of things but centering on my graphics card overheating due to a blown fan, it has since been replaced), anyway i then couldn't get past the win2k startup screen or get anywhere with the win2k repair functions and despite trying a number of things couldn't find a solution to this. So I reinstalled win2k on a different drive (which was previously the slave drive) in the hope that i could just hook up the other drive afterwards and get all my files back, but everytime i attach it i get the same problem (0xAIRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUALntoskrnl.exe).

    I'm thinking that this will be a boot.ini problem and that perhaps the boot.ini file on my other hd (previously the master) is possibly corrupted.
    How then do I manage to get the drive attached and working again, do i need to delete the boot.ini file on the other drive?

    Currently the boot.ini file on the fresh installation is:
    [boot loader]
    timeout=15
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microso ft Windows 2000
    Professional" /fastdetect

    my other drive has two partitions as does my current master.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

    Take a read on these and see if the microsoft site can offer help on this issue:

    Microsoft thinks it's a driver problem. Here's a couple of articles giving some in-depth debugging discussion which might be of use to you...

    Hi,
    I have had this type of problem many times when repairing different machines. It sounds to me like your machine found a system config change and is stopping on the"blue" screen on start up. Sometimes I can reinstall the changed hardware enough to it started and get the files off the old drives. You can also wipe the new drive clean, format it with NTFS and reinstall the 2000 OS. Get the new system running then add the second drive setting it on the main board bios as not to boot. Also I have added drives while the machine was on and have been able to get the files that way. After getting the info needed I then reformat the second drive and the machine will boot normally with the second drive installed.
    Hard drives also come with install software that will help you with this type of change.
