Thread: lite-on 24102m cd/rw on win2000

I am trying to install this Lite-on LTR-24102m CD R/W into a dell dimension 4300
running win 2000.
The system only recognizes the drive as a CD Rom.
I have flashed the system bios, drive firmware and cleard the nvram (whatever that is).
This drive came out of another dell that was running win xp and it worked fine

What am I doing wrong?

I did notice that the windows service: IMAPI is not showing up on this computer.
Could that have anything to do with it?

So Windows does see the "CD unit" and can you read disks from it?

Have you tried using any software to burn a cd to see if it works?

Windows does see it as cd-rom.

I put roxio ez-cd creator 5.35 ont the comp. but it said "no supported drive found"
In the bios it also shows up as cd-rom

It will read cd's, play music, etc.
If you put a blank cd in it, it says " E: is not accessible, incorrect function"

The IMAPI service is for burning cd's and it is not on the computer.

Im pretty sure windows 2000 will only display the drive as a "CD Rom", its the CD burning software that actually recognises it as a cd burner..

I read this from the roxio site "The last Drive-Up patch "5.3.5.10v" to support newer burners was December 5, 2004. If your burner is newer that that, you probably will not be able to use ECDC 5"

What happens when your try and restart the IMAPI Service? I assume your running SP4 on your copy of Win 2000?

Try downloading the trial version of nero and see if that works any better,

The IMAPI service does not show up in the services, so I can't start or re-start it,
It is not there.
