Thread: Two problems Please help!

Hi,
I have two problems.
First my Spybot loads very long time tens minutes.
I reinstalled it several times even different versions
But problem remains the same.

What's going on?

Second. Couple days ago all of sudden
I saw Yahoo toolbar in my IE6 which
didn't exist before. I immediately uninstall
it but became got messages such as

Change value added to User specific
Browser toolbar and New
data hex11 0000...30
I forbid changes with help of Spybot
Tea timer .
I checked computer by AVG Free edition
And Spybot and found nothing.

What happened to my computer?
Am I hacked?

Spybot:
Sorry don`t use it anymore, but I do remember it taking forever to start, certainly if you had not used it for some time. However 10 minutes does seem excessive.

Have you got the latest update?
This was a known issue in version 1.5, but was fixed with version 1.5.1.17.

Yahoo toolbar:
Have you downloaded some other program lately? Some "Free" downloads have a small box allowing these toolbars to be installed. You need to be sure to untick that box OR you could end up with a load of these toolbars. (I just fixed a friends laptop that had 6 toolbars installed in IE ... took an age to open and there was screens everywhere.

Is there any reason you have not updated to IE7 .. it is a lot more secure than IE6, Its still rubbish and prone to more attacks than any other browser like Firefox or opera.

Opps .. went of course there ... the Yahoo toolbar should show up in the add/remove program in your control panel, delete for there.

Michael - the Yahoo! Toolbar was probably installed when you installed another program - automatically. You can uninstall it through Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel. p.s. IEv7 is not compatible with computers older than XP.

I have removed Spybot from all the computers I work on - it has become too slow and too resource intensive, plus it removes things it shouldn't. If you want to know if your computer is infected, here's what I would do:

go to www.download.com and get Malwarebytes Anti Malware
save it to your hard drive and install the program. [If you have any problems installing it, you are infected for sure. In that case, you may want to visit their forums for specific advice on how to get it installed in safe mode.]

If you do get it installed, open it up, update the definitions and run a quick scan. Delete anything it finds. Reboot the machine into safe mode [tapping F8 as it starts]. Run the full scan and remove anything else it may find.

If you decide to get rid of Spybot, you may want to "undo" everything it has done before you uninstall it, just in case it is the reason for your computer's slowdown. Also, if you installed the TeaTimer function, that could be the reason for the slowdown too.
