Default Problem with Speakers
I just recently was gifted with a new computer. By new I mean a 1998 Dell with Windows 98. What's really funny is that it runs thrice as fast as our HP Pavilion 2003 with Windows XP, with only one problem; the speakers won't work. My old computer is basically dead, it doesn't work and I have consulted too many computer professionals who just "Ohhh'd" and "Ahhh'd" but the complexities of the problem, thus I got this one. Anyway it won't register the speakers. Whenever I try and use the speakers they don't respond, whenever I look at the audio configuration it says it's connected to Yamaha speakers...which I don't have. I try and update and I can't find any way to. Is there anyway to get my speakers to work on it? (On a side note I've tried two sets of speakers, both of which didn't respond. Neither did the headphones when they were plugged into all existing plugs that would accomodate them). Can anyone help me?

I'll have to get back to you on that, the computer is at home. But since I'm at school the most I can tell you is that the speakers I'm TRYING to use are Polk Audio.
