Default wndows 95 stops booting
Hi,
I have an ibm thinkpad 760xl with windows 95 os. Whenever I turn on the laptop, it starts booting up but at certain point it just(about 1-2 minutes) stop and does nothing any more. If I try
to turn off the laptop, it is beeping twice but it never turns off so at least I know that the laptop is stil on and doing something. Does any one can tell me what to do to
fix the problem I will be very much glad......

thank you.

Can you try to boot windows into safe mode and see if it boot fully or still hangs.

to do this :

To get into Windows 95 safe mode, as the computer is booting, when you either hear a beep or when you see the message "Starting Windows 95", press your F8 key on the top of your keyboard.

If done properly you should get into the Windows 95 Startup menu .In this menu choose option 3 by pressing the 3 key and press enter.

Hi,
I have no problem doing the F8, and then I got a list of options I can choose. I chose safe mode, but then the laptop just stops booting and the screen becomes dark. I choose all 5 options (one by one of course) with the same result. It just stops booting with dark screen. I believe the laptop itself is still running but the it does nothing. Do you think there is any button or anything like missing part in the laptop. I use external laptop then I chose all options after F8 with the same result.
I really want to know what is wrong with it, and I can try to break all laptop components but I don't know what that could be wrong.......

when you say you used "external laptop" did you mean you used an external monitor / screen?

also you could look at this :http://support.microsoft.com/kb/136337

otherwise i think you will have to pop it into a local repair center to be looked at im afraid.

Hi,
Yes, I use external monitor, just to do something as I really don't know what to do. It seems it is a hardware problem, but what part that is wrong, I don't know and actually I would like to fix it myself so going to repair man is not an option.......Anyway thanks for your guidance....

No problems, but fixing laptops isnt easy, as there isnt much too them, maybe you could try re-installing windows 95, although you would lose all your data.

Also could you try some sort of diagnostics software, perhaps ibm have some for your model laptop
