I have just bought a new laptop and am finding it difficult to connect to my Tiscali broadband. I have managed to set up my Sagem modem but still cannot get onto it. Any suggestions anybody?

Hi,
How far did you get with installing your sagem modem?
As far as im aware there are "no" vista drivers for sagem modems so basically it wont work on vista. A number of users are having the same problem and have had to resort to buying a ADSL router instead of using the modem.
Hi there,
Thanks for your message. In reply to your question I followed the instructions below
Option: 1 - ( manual install of drivers )
If you are using Windows Vista RC1, perform the following steps:
1. Locate the “sagem” directory on the driver disc. ( do not run the software )
2. Right-click “Setup.exe” and set the compatibility to “Windows XP SP2” and tick the “run as Administrator” box towards the bottom.
3. Go ahead and execute “Setup.exe” – let it continue and set everything up, afterwards Vista will prompt you that it has detected new hardware (the modem) and you should install the drivers now. CANCEL this dialog and reboot.
4. Upon rebooting you should have a fully working ADSL modem that can be setup for your connection (much easier than in XP) through the network centre. (you might need to unplug-plug the modem to get it to detect give it a few seconds it will work)
It says it is installed and shows up on my list of programs but still does not seem to work.
If I buy a router do they all work with Vista or do I need a certain one?
Thanks
Wendy
I saw that install method before but I know many users are having the same problem you seem to be,
As for routers, they will work as the do not need drivers, i use a d-link one at home, with tiscali, also netgear are a good make, if you need more advice then let us know and we will give you some more detail
I have now managed to get on line with a Netgear router but only by connecting with ethernet. If I try to go wireless I get a message to say that the signal is not strong enough even though I have managed to connect perfectly well with my husband's laptop which runs XP. The netgear router seems to find the adaptor and it shows that there is a connection to my network. I have tried reinstalling the drivers for the wireless adaptor which is Atheros AR5006EG but this does not seem to work either. Has anybody any suggestions, please?
Hi, I assume you have downloaded and installed the latest Vista drivers for your Atheros Adapter? Could you tell us the model of your netgear router!!Originally Posted by Wendy Hoyle

Hi again. The router is a Netgear 54 Mbps ADSL Modem Wireless Router Model DG834G, and yes I have updated the Vista drivers via the Toshiba website. The laptop was purchased with Vista already installed and is an Equium 100A.
Thanks
Wendy
This seems like another "problem" Vista is causing many users, for the time being take a look at this link http://www.microsoft.com/technet/com...uy/cg0406.mspx
Im waiting on a couple of answers back from a few people i have spoken too, so will let you know when I hear back
