Default Printer sharing Vista + W2k, and system restore

    Hi.
    I've got 2 questions:
    1. On a Vista Home machine, although the check box is ticked, System Restore is not creating auto setpoints. Any ideas?

    2. I am trying to network a W2kPro computer to the Vista Home machine for printer sharing. I have them on the same named workgroup, and set the printer to "share". I can not get the computers to see each other. I've tried RUN/CMD/PING but it times out on both ends. They are hooked up to a LinkSys WRT160N wireless router: the Vista machine is hard wired and the W2k machine is wireless with a Trendnet USB adapter. The internet connection is fine on both computers...I just can't get them to talk to each other. I've checked the firewall settings, made the network "private" but still no luck. Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

BTW: I am sure it's not the W2k computer, as I had that hooked up to my home network with XP and Vista computers on it, and it printed just fine from a couple of different shared printers. It has got to be something with this Vista Home computer - something is not right. The fact that it is not automatically creating restore points tells me something is wrong.

UPDATE: I ran a sfc /scannow and it said that some of the files on the Vista machine could not be repaired - it made a log file for me: CBS.log. But, I get an "access denied" when trying to open it. I'm thinking I need a reformat and reinstall, unless someone can point me in the direction of a manual system file restore procedure?

    Hi all,
After running a second sfc /scannow in safe mode, the log file indicated there was a corrupt TCPMON.INI file and the system gave me a message that the original was also corrupt and could not be restored.

Just a thought here - after reading the comments in this forum:

    and the subsequent instruction here:

I'm just wondering if perhaps this corrupt TCPMON.INI situation wasn't brought about by the installation of SP1? Any thoughts anyone?
