    Default Vista Permissions!

I dont know about you but those of you using Vista and want to, for example, move an image to another username or even another folder, gets that annoying damn window which says that you do not have permission, click continue etc - sometimes it just will not allow you to do it at all. Well, I have been pointed in the direction of this little gem and feel its only fair to share it with you all. The problem being is that vista is its own adminstrator, or should I say, adminis-traitor.

UAC or User Access Control is a new feature of Windows Vista that is meant to enhance the security of your system. Each time an application is installed or whenever an important system change is made by the user or by a running process, the screen is blacked out and temporarily disabled and a dialog is shown with the choices to allow or deny the action.

If the logged in user is not an administrator, Windows Vista will also ask for the administrator password. While this helps keeping your system safer from threats, it can also be very annoying and sometimes confusing.

In this guide we will show you how to disable this feature of Windows Vista.

To disable the UAC, enter the Control Panel and type UAC in the search box.

The first result returned by the search will be User Accounts – Turn User Account Control (UAC) on or off.

Interesting article, thanks for that. I actually tried "run as administrator" on something a while back it refused.

Sometimes you can set the program's admin acc. through right clicking the icon, properties and set as 'run as admin'.
Have run Vista without UAC when only myself as user. Since other members of family using PC I re-enabled it.
To be honest you can set Vista Home Premium up as Vista Basic. This will give you a glorified XP that will run DirectX 10.
    Defeats the object I think.

Of course not. I have little 'uns on my machine and don't want them to be able to do any damage through clicking here there and everywhere, even though they're watched...

I run Vista Ultimate on one of my Computers (as dual boot) and after chopping out %10 and altering a good %15 of the OS it runs quite well and fast, one of the most annoying things the guys at MS Labs have come up with yet is Vistas UAC (continues pop-ups asking in effect "do you know what your doing !), this is easy to turn off --- but Vista needs UAC because its learning, so do you have to put up with it ? --- NO ! >

Within Vista Ultimate there's a switch that can be set to automatically accept all UAC warnings, and using this switch rather than disabling UAC is a good thing because it leaves Vista security in place. The UAC pop-up isn't just a simple "Are You Sure?" warning. Responding to the pop-up actually elevates your permissions, if your user account is in the Administrator group and your permissions can be elevated.

    How to >

Click Start and Control Panel. Switch to Classic View (if you haven't already) and click on the Administration Tools icon. In the list that opens click on Local Security Policy, and in the next window, Local Policies, In the Local Policies list click Security Options, and scroll down to "User Account Control: Behaviour" (the full title of the policy is "User Account Control: Behaviour of the elevation prompt for administrators in Admin Approval Mode" Double-click the title and in the dialogue box change its setting from "Prompt for Consent" to "Elevate without prompting." Click OK.

This tweak works in Vista Ultimate.
