Strange, but over the past 4-5 days my quad core 3gb ram pc has gone really slow in its bios pre vista boot up. What took about 5-10 seconds is now taking a couple of minutes. Then, when Vista HP kicks in, back to normal, any ideas?![]()

Seems quite common for Vista to slow down after a time. Try this tip it may help:
Try stopping the service Superfetch.
Start / and type
services.msc
and enter.
Now scroll through the services and stop Superfetch, reboot the computer.
If this does not stop the slow response, you can safely re-enable the superfetch service.
Worth a try.
cheers ace, giving it a go.
No go - error 1053 windows could not stop this process.

If it is showing up that error you need to update Microsoft .NET Framework. Go to the MS update site and download the latest version of NET Framework (See if that helps speed things up) if not try the fix again.
Just ran win update and its telling me my windows is bang up to date. Going to check ms.com shortly
Update:
Reinstall .net framework asked me if I wanted to do a repair, said yes. Was already up to date anyway. Then services.msc allowed me to do stop on superfetch, did restart, no change.
Whilst doing all this removed some programs that are no longer used.
Just went back in to restart superfetch and it had already started on restart!

Ok ... when you say you removed some programs .. did you mean you uninstalled them?
Some misguided people tell you to stop programs from starting by stopping them in msconfig/start-up this is wrong. Msconfig is for testing purpose only. For stopping programs running at start up use Windows defender/tools/software explorer. Use this to stop anything you do not need at the start-up it might it help with your boot time.
thanks, no I uninstalled them. Off now to check Win Defender.
I see nothing untoward, not all that much is actually running.
Just run a full HP machine dignostics test, which icludes BIOS and nothing was reported; all tests passed!!

Seems to me I recall seeing an option in the bios setup for "fastboot" and normal boot. Could your setting have changed by chance?
I will check that but things have moved on, my apologies for not keeping you informed. I sopke to Hewlett Packard and they recommended a link for the download of a new BIOS driver. So I installed it and immediately it began to boot faster. In fact I think it may be back to 'normal'
I will have a look for the option you mention, worth checking. HP support have been magnificent.
