    Default Remote Access

A mate wants me to directly access his pc in his place of work. He gave me the pc address and the password but my pc keeps telling me it cannot find it.

I said that I thought I needed the IP, but he said no, he can access it via the info he gave me from his home, so why can't I?

I have checked Remote Access in my own pc, it seems to be ready, but not too sure of procedure. Maybe I am doing something wrong.

I go to remote access, instert the pc name and it tells me authentication will be required when connected, no problem, but - no connect.

ok, I'm not entirely sure what method you want to use, but I use a program called Teamviewer 4, you may have seen the tv ad for gotomypc, well teamviewer is a better version of that, AND it's free!

    TeamViewer Download

It's handy, and it's a random password every time (unless you set a constant password, in which case you still need to know the "pc ID") it's quite self explanatory, and you can remotely access his pc, OR display your screen, you can even lock him out if you want...

It's very useful, so it's worth a shot

cheers ace. so Windows remote is a waste of space then?

Edit: downloaded and ran, seems easy enough but still no connection, so have asked mate to install on his to enable software-software connection, hope it works. It asks for a pre windows boot up password, but I left that alone I do not want to annoy my boot up with passwords!!

yeah I never got windows remote to work...

Teamviewer's good, I can't remember if I put in my bootup pass or not, it's perfectly safe though, Forgot to tell you he needs to download and install it as well, then he needs to give you his unique ID thing, you can then either configure a permanent password, or get him to give you the temporary one that will be shown on his pc
