quite a few in the geeks forum mention this:
“Modifying HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Policies\Explorer to 91 (hex) worked for me.”
but I do not have that folder in registry? I have up to current ver, then nothing.

uh, sounds like a "backup time" and then reinstall, if you ask me.......
But try this first:

Good luck!

Oh boy.....okay, I know this is a stupid question, but have you tried this?
Change AutoPlay settings
and here is W7, but it's basically the same as Vista
How enable the dialog box when a cd or a removable disk is inserted?
I am just wondering, if these don't work, maybe you should go into device manager and delete your CD drive. Then let the new hardware wizard find it and install it again?
both negative. it says all is ok, but it isn't
and you did this too, right?
start>run>regedit
Navigate to the following subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\CDRom
Look down the list of option in the Right Hand pane of the Registry editor Window and locate the AutoRun option
If the AutoRun value is 1 (one) then AutoRun is enabled. If it is 0 (zero) then it is disabled. To re-enable it, Right Click on the AutoRun option, Select Modify and in the Value Data box type: 1 (one), then Press OK
Red Devil,
Have you checked in Services to make sure that AutoRun Shell is set to "automatic" and not manual or disabled? In Vista, I believe it's called Shell Hardware Detection
Then I would go into MSCONFIG from RUN
Look in Services Tab and make sure that Shell Hardware Detection box is checked

Shell Hardware is ticked and running in msconfig
regedit: autorun 0,000000001 (1) settings already on enable.
default: value not set
