Default Backup application fails on start
My Vista Backup utility fails seconds after my starting it up, quoting "File Backup could not start" with error code 0x80070057.

I've done the routine - accessing support at Microsoft, com but no luck, the error code is obviously not recognised despite searches etc.

I am anxious to restore this Backup function if I can. As usual I've done nothing to upset the applecart - no dodgy software installs - no sudden shutdowns - nothing.

Service Pack 1 was installed some weeks ago. However, I've accomplished several successful backups since then, so I'm confident that SP1 isn't the cause of this latest problem. I back up to a separate physical internal hard drive.

Sorry still running XP here, but a web search shows this is a common error in the Vista backup ... this is the instructions to get round it.

"This error is caused by a bug in File Backup where if you don't back up at least one file during the full backup, every backup after that fails. The workaround is to go through the Backup wizard again and choose a new full file backup at the very end."

Hope that helps

Thank you Ferret for your information.

I cannot locate the Backup Wizard to which you refer.

I did try to do another full backup by opening the "Backup and Restore Center", then "Change Settings" and then "Change Backup Settings" to 'adjust your current settings or start a new, full backup'.

(Is this the way to access the Backup Wizard?)

Unfortunately on doing this I still get a box stating "The backup application could not start due to an internal error" "The parameter is incorrect. (0x80070057) Please check your system configuration and try again"

This leaves me where I started. Can I 'break out' of this loop somehow?
