BSOD 0x00000007E
I have two known problems with my desktop pc;
1 On entering sleep/hibernate there is a random chance of failure with lock up or BSOD .
2 Inability to re-install windows vista or to perform a repair in the f8 advanced options list at startup and the inability to use a recovery disc or to use a bootable disc to update the BIOS.
I believe the computer from new had these problems along with a graphics card hardware problem. The graphics card was replaced by the vendor but the sleep problem and inability to re-install windows remains.
I have contacted the vendor and they checked for antivirus software clashes with the operating system. They did not find a problem.

The pc has two DVD RW drives and two hard drives of 320GB each.
Specifics of problem;
On entering sleep or hibernate there is the probability that the pc will lock up. No further action is possible other than hitting the power button on the front of the unit. Two scenarios are possible, 1 the keyboard and drive activity light go out simultaneously and the pc locks up and 2, the keyboard light goes out but the drive light stays permanently on (no flickering). Num Lock on the keyboard is on and cannot be turned off in both cases.
In a restart situation, pressing f8 takes me to the advanced options page. Selecting Repair puts the computer into a locked state with a blank screen. There is no disc activity light but the computer fan is running faster than in normal operating conditions.
In a restart with the Vista disc in the cd drive the white bar progresses along the bottom of the screen and at the end of the screen there is a BSOD 0x00000007E (0xc0000005,0x8047C25E,080A03828,0x80A03524)
Mcupdate.dll – address 8047c2EE base at 80477000.
Cleaning up the registry with CCleaner removes the mcupdate reference in the BSOD. The failure with booting from the vista disc on startup is then BSOD 0x0000007E (0xc0000005,0x88B43B89,0x80A0399C,0x80A03698).
Using a recovery disc with an image downloaded from the internet I get the same white bar traversing the bottom of the screen and the BSOD 0x00000007E (0xc0000005,0x8047C25E,080A03828,0x80A03524)
Mcupdate.dll – address 8047c2EE base at 80477000.
Antivirus program is Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 2009 8.0.0.357
Does anyone have any ideas of how to fix this?
